Pupils may bring a mobile phone to school at their own risk. The school cannot accept responsibility for loss, theft or damage to personal devices.

If there is an emergency during the school day, parents/carers and pupils should contact each other through the school office. The school office can be reached on 01330 700450.

Mobile Phones in Classrooms

At Banchory Academy, we recognise that mobile phones are an important part of modern life. We are committed to helping young people develop responsible habits and appropriate digital behaviours.

To support learning and minimise distractions, we have a consistent approach to mobile phone use across the school. Mobile phones should remain switched off or on silent and stored away in a school bag or pocket during lessons, unless a member of staff has specifically authorised their use for learning purposes.

In some classrooms, teachers may ask pupils to place their phones in a designated storage area during the lesson. Pupils who repeatedly fail to follow mobile phone expectations may be asked to hand their phone to the teacher for safekeeping until the end of the lesson.

Where a pupil leaves the classroom during a lesson, for example to visit the toilet, mobile phones should be left in the classroom, on the teachers desk, and not taken with them.

On occasions when mobile phones are permitted as part of learning, teachers will make this clear either verbally or through established classroom routines such as a traffic-light system.

We appreciate the support of parents and carers in reinforcing these expectations and helping to maintain a positive learning environment for all.
